New Miniature Motor Uses Silver to Reduce
Wear
API Motion of Amherst, New York, has introduced a 17 millimeter
miniature motor for use in medical pumps, security cameras
and model trains that uses gold-alloy brushes and silver-
alloy collector materials to increase efficiency and extend
service life. Motor life increases up to 50 percent because
the silver and gold parts produce fewer sparks than other
metals, according to company officials. The motor retails
for $33.
