U.S. Mint May Strike Up to 1/2 Million Robert Kennedy Silver
Dollars
To commemorate the life and work of the late
Robert F. Kennedy, the United States Mint will strike up to
500,000 commemorative silver dollars. The proof coin will
cost $33 and the uncirculated coin will cost $30. Ten dollars
from each coin sold will go to the Robert Kennedy Memorial,
a non-profit organization created to support Kennedy's humanitarian
mission. The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial silver dollar will
also be offered as part of a two-coin set along with the John
F. Kennedy silver half dollar.
Kennedy was United States Attorney General
from 1960 to 1964 and United States Senator from New York
from 1964 to 1968. He was then a candidate for the Democratic
Party's nomination in the 1968 presidential primaries. In
June, 1968, at age 42, he was assassinated.
The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial includes the
National Project for At-Risk Youth, which helps youths with
drug and alcohol addiction; the Robert F. Kennedy Center for
Human Rights, which supports projects that resist oppression,
persecution and abuse worldwide and the Robert F. Kennedy
Awards, which honor individuals for their humanitarian efforts.
