Silver Institute Elects Top Officers
Eduardo Luna, President of Luismin S.A. de C.V., was elected
President of The Silver Institute at the association's annual
meeting in April. Ross Beaty, Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of Pan American Silver Corporation, was elected Vice
President.
Luna, who joined Luismin in 1989, was previously president
of his own minerals and metals trading company, Amalgama.
Prior to that, he spent seven years with Minera Autlan S.A.
de C.V. He received a Masters Degree in Business Administration
from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey
and has been a member of the American Institute of Mining
Engineers since 1969. He is a past president of the Mexican
Mining Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Mineral Resources
Council. He succeeds John Simko, CEO of Sunshine Mining and
Refining Company as President of The Silver Institute.
Beaty, who succeeds Luna as Vice President of the Institute,
has founded four companies since 1980, three of which were
sold to other mining companies. He received a Master of Science
in Mining Geology and Mineral Exploration from the University
of British Columbia. He also received a Bachelor of Laws degree
specializing in corporate, taxation and natural resources
law.
