New Silver-Palladium Alloy Developed: Metal
Can Handle High-Heat Applications
Daido Steel of Japan has developed a powdered alloy of silver
and palladium designed for use in the wiring of ceramic materials
or as an electrode.
Wiring metal onto ceramic materials has always been difficult
because the metal expands with heat but the ceramic does not.
The metal tends to peel away or break.
The new alloy's main characteristic is that
it does not expand when heated, even from the high temperatures
of a soldering tool. In addition, because the alloy does not
contain lead, environmental problems are avoided.
