Dow Introduces New Silver Inks - Sees Double-Digit Growth for Product

On the heels of its silver ink introduction earlier this year, Dow Corning Corporation has introduced five products in its family of highly-conductive silver inks, used in electronics applications such as smart cards, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, flexible circuits and antennas for handheld devices.

The silver inks essentially act as flat wires that are placed on surfaces and used to connect electrical components. A major use is in printed circuit boards.

The company expects to see double-digit growth in this sector over the next several years driven by demand from industries such as health care, inventory control and logistics, access/security badges, communications, transportation and defense, according to Tom Cook, Global Industry Executive Director.

“With our growing silver ink family, Dow Corning enables a full breadth of applications, making it easier for customers to find the exact material for their unique design and manufacturing needs,” he said.

The silver inks are placed on a variety of materials manufactured by Dow, including thermoset and thermoplastic materials, paper and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

The materials deliver electrical conductivity that is an order of magnitude greater than other products in the market,

along with an ability to maintain low resistivity even during long-term environmental stress, Cook noted.

Dow Corning Corporation is equally owned by the Dow Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated.
