International Conference on the Role of Silver
in Medicine: Proceedings Focused on Silver's Healing Powers
The recently held 4th International Conference on Gold and
Silver in Medicine, principally sponsored by The Silver Institute,
continued its tradition of introducing the latest research
about the growing role of silver in medical studies and practical
clinical treatments.
"This conference reinforced the importance
of silver in treating burns and other wounds," says Professor
Frank Shaw, of the University of Wisconsin, who organized
the May meeting in conjunction with the 31st Great Lakes Regional
Chemical Society Meeting. Shaw noted that many of the meeting's
papers highlighted research on exactly how silver interacts
with parts of bacteria. Silver is a known anti-bacterial agent
and research presented at the meeting helped increase the
understanding of how to further use silver's properties. Other
papers discussed silver compound's anti-tumor possibilities.
Paul Batemen, Silver Institute Executive
Director, noted: "This forum has served to encourage
significant research in many areas vital to human life."
The Silver Institute has been a key sponsor of the meetings
since their beginnings in 1987.
Proceedings of the meetings will be published
next year in a special edition of the journal Metal-Based
Drugs.
