Silver Institute Elects New Officers
(June 14, 2007 - Washington, D.C.) Robert Quartermain, President of Silver Standard Resources, Inc, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, was elected President of the Silver Institute by the Institute's membership in June. Roque Benavides, Chief Executive Officer of Cia de Minas Buenaventura, Lima, Peru, was elected Vice President of the Institute. In addition, James Sabala and Tom Angelos, both of Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation in Idaho, were re-elected Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer respectively. They begin service immediately and will serve a two-year term.
Mr. Quartermain takes the helm from Phil Baker, the President of Hecla Mining Company, whose two-year term ended in May.
Mr. Quartermain stressed that he would like to continue the Institute's ongoing programs, which are specifically designed to increase silver demand while expanding membership to broaden the Institute's work portfolio. "The Silver Institute draws its membership from around the world and across the length and breadth of the silver industry, so I am honored to be named as its new President," said Quartermain. "Through this position, and in my role as President of Silver Standard, I am committed to continuing to educate on the ever-increasing value and uses of silver."
"The membership of the Institute looks forward to working with Bob and Roque," said Michael DiRienzo, Executive Director of the Silver Institute. "They both bring a tremendous amount of experience to the table," he added. "We also want to pay special tribute to Phil Baker for the terrific job he did in leading the Institute for the past two years," Mr. DiRienzo concluded.
The Silver Institute is a nonprofit international industry association headquartered in Washington, D.C. Established in 1971, the Institute serves as the industry's voice in increasing public understanding of the value and many uses of silver.
